When my kids were younger they would proudly announce the sighting of a run-over animal with the shout "pizza possom", "pizza squirrel" or in this case "pizza bird". My kids were always sentimental like this.
A tiny female goldfinch hit our patio door last year... I went out to check on it, since usually they 'recover' and fly away. This lil' one did not and I watched it breath its last... I still think about that moment, sitting there quietly, offering a little prayer... ...and I think on how precious each life is in His kingdom.
